A Boho Crochet Wedding on the Summer Solstice: Faith & Ciaran’s Magical Garden Celebration

A Boho Crochet Wedding on the Summer Solstice: Faith & Ciaran’s Magical Garden Celebration

On June 21st, the Summer Solstice, I married the love of my life, Ciaran, in the garden of our home — a space full of flowers, memories, and now, the most beautiful celebration of love I could have imagined. As the founder of Wild Flower Crochet, this day was not just about saying "I do," but also about bringing my vision of a handcrafted boho wedding to life — with plenty of crochet wedding inspiration along the way.

Rain, Sunshine & a Touch of Magic

The day began with a dash of concern — it was raining steadily as we set up for the ceremony. Friends and family rallied around, helping to hang crochet mandalas, bunting, and handmade decorations under a grey sky. I was anxious — until my bridesmaid Clare reassured me, “Rain makes the knot tighter.” Her words settled my heart.

And then — just like magic — the clouds parted. By the time our ceremony began, the garden was bathed in warm golden sunshine. The soft light shimmered off the dried flower arrangements and glistened through the crochet banners we’d strung up between trees. It felt like the world was blessing us.

A Celebrant with Heart and Humour

Our celebrant, Donna Savage, was everything we hoped for and more. She was warm, funny, and grounded, and she guided our ceremony with such care and sincerity. She shared our love story, had us exchange rings, and led us through a series of beautiful rituals:

  • A handfasting ceremony, where our hands were bound with cord to symbolise our union.
  • An elderflower blessing, using golden brass chalices, where we each took a sip to honour nature and new beginnings.
  • A fire ceremony, where guests wrote messages of love and wishes for our future, and we fed them into the flames together.

The Crochet Wedding Dress of My Dreams

As a crochet artist, I knew I wanted to create something truly personal — so I crocheted my own wedding dress. It was the most ambitious crochet project I’ve ever taken on: completely self-designed, made without a pattern, and built stitch-by-stitch with intention and love.

I worked on it over many months, shaping and reshaping as I went. The process was deeply meditative — almost spiritual. Each loop carried my hopes and dreams. The final piece featured delicate lacework, a flowing silhouette, and fit me like a dream. The crochet dress perfectly complemented the boho aesthetic of the day, with dried flowers, natural tones, and an ethereal, handmade feel.

If you’re looking for crochet bridal inspiration, boho crochet wedding dress ideas, or custom crochet pieces for your special day, I’d love to share that journey with you.

Handmade Details, From Our Hearts to Yours

Our wedding was a full collaboration of creativity and love. So many elements were handmade, and each guest could feel the thought and care woven into the day:

  • Hand-picked and dried rose petals were used as confetti.
  • We made white chocolates with lavender ganache centers as sweet treats.
  • Guest favours included homemade elderflower champagne, wild plum jam, and wildflower seed bombs.
  • Crochet bunting, mandalas, and wall hangings added soft, colourful beauty everywhere you looked.
  • My partner Ciaran built a wooden pallet bar from reclaimed wood.
  • My daughter Bhakti and Clare (our chief bridesmaid) painted charming wooden signs to guide guests around the garden.

Everything about the day celebrated sustainability, creativity, and slow-made love.

With Gratitude

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make our day so unforgettable. To our friends and family — thank you for your laughter, energy, and love. You filled our home with joy.

Thank you to Iris Willow Photography, who captured every precious moment with grace and warmth. Her stunning, natural imagery truly tells the story of the day. She made us feel comfortable, confident, and cared for.

Our beautiful flowers were purchased and arranged by Mel from Melanie-Louise in Ledbury. She was extremely welcoming, thoughtful and supportive. It also felt great to use a local business who ethically sources their dried flowers from close-by Shropshire.

And thank you to the Asha, who provided an incredible curry feast for our wedding dinner. Not only was the food delicious, but their generosity and kindness added such a special touch.
