Free Axolotl Stress Ball Crochet Pattern

Introduction |
Yarn: Chenille Yarn (I used Little Wool Shop - Snuggle Chunky in colour Puff)
Yarn Weight: Chunky
Hook Size: 4mm
Stress Ball: Any squishy ball 40 mm or 4 cm to fit this pattern. You could always experiment with stitch amounts and rows to make it fit a larger ball. I got my squishy balls from Amazon.
Amount of yarn: Less than a ball, two colours
Terminology: US
Level: Beginner and upwards

Instructions |
Head & Body
Magic ring or Ch 4, sl st into first ch to form a ring. (whichever is your preferred method).
Rnd 1: 8 sc into ring. (8 sts)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (16 sts)
Rnd 3: [1 sc, 2 sc in next st] ×2, 1 sc, bobble, [1 sc, 2 sc in next st] ×2, bobble, [1 sc, 2 sc in next st] ×2, 1 sc. Join. (23 sts)
Rnd 4: Sc around. Join. (23 sts)
Rnd 5: Sc around. Join.
Rnd 6: 9 sc, bobble, 3 sc, bobble, 9 sc. (23 sts)
Rnd 7: 10 sc up to bobble in rnd below, ch 3, skip 3 sts, 11 sc past bobble on opposite side. Join. (23 sts)
Rnd 8: [1 sc, sc2tog] ×3, 1 sc, 3 sc over ch-sp, [1 sc, sc2tog] ×3, sc2tog. Join. (17 sts)
Rnd 9: Sc around. Join. (17 sts)
Eyes: Sew on eyes one row above the mouth, positioned above the arms. Use a short piece of black yarn:

Insert needle from the back, come out 1 row above the mouth, make a small verticle stitch x 3 or 4 (depending on how prominant you want the eye to be), pass yarn to the back, then repeat on the other side.

Tie yarn ends at the back of the head and secure.
Insert stress ball into body.
Rnd 10: Sc2tog around. (Approx. 8–9 sts remain), weave yarn through remaining stitches, and pull tight to close. Fasten off.
Finishing |
Gills (make 2 sets, one on each side)
Join yarn below the last round of the head.

Ch 4, sl st into join point.

Ch 6, sl st into join point.

Ch 4, sl st into join point.
Fasten off.
Repeat on the opposite side of the head.
Weave in all ends.
